Movies like this aren’t meant to be taken seriously. The fun in watching Trick or Treat was knowing ahead of time that it was going to suck…in a good way. This is hands-down the greatest thing about schlocky 80s horror. The fact that this movie reminded me of another rock ‘n roll crappy 80s flick, Slumber Party Massacre 2 (SEE IT IMMEDIATELY!), made it even more enjoyable than it should have been.
Eddie is a metalhead who can’t catch a break. The kids pick on him, he has bad hair and he can’t get laid. In other words, he’s awful at being a metalhead. He writes a passionate love letter…erm, “fan” letter…to his rock ‘n roll man-crush, Sammi Curr, only to find out that he’s been burned to death in a fire. BUMMER! His DJ friend, Nuke (Gene Simmons…who’s actually a pretty decent actor), consoles him by giving him the only pressing of Curr’s last record. Of course, in true metal fashion, the record was made just for him. Curr communicates to Eddie when the record plays backwards. When Eddie, once again, chickens out of destroying those who harmed him, Curr gets pissed off and arises from the dead to destroy the bastards for him.
Complete with the awful 80s hair band metal, Trick or Treat is pretty ridiculous. I mean, Ozzy Osbourne plays a reverend for Christ’s Sake! [Insert obvious pun here]. The parents/adults are scared of Curr and are happy when he dies. It’s like watching an extended version of Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” video.
Aside from the tape, dubbed from the record, possessing the car, turning the entire end of this film into the end of Christine, this movie is pretty clever. I can finally say my life is complete now that I’ve heard the phrase “NO FALSE METAL!” used in a movie.
You will laugh. You might cry…from laughing. You will have a good time. See it. NOW!
Oh, and you also get to see the essence of rock ‘n roll have sex with a girl.

I have seen this movie years ago when I was in high school. I am 38 years old now. This movie is a classic for me. The biggest thing for me is the sound track by Fastway. We use to party all over southern californina and jamming that CD in the car. Every song has a memory. Thanks for the blog.
